Lap Band Tackles Weight
The lap band system is the brand name for the FDA-approved, adjustable gastric band placed in the upper part of the stomach.
To start the lap band procedure, a lap band surgeon will institute a series of small incisions, then while using a small camera called a laparoscope visualize placement of band.
The lap band is placed around the top of the stomach and held in place by sutures.
The port will then be placed below the skin on the upper portion of the abdomen. Surgery generally lasts anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, and an overnight stay in the hospital is at the discretion of the surgeon. In most cases, the patient will return home the same day as the procedure.
