Lap Band and Diabetes
Many individuals who have undergone lap band surgery will inform others that it was not only a cosmetic choice in their battle against Obesity, but one to save their life or at least extend it by losing weight.
Among the numerous health risks those dealing with Obesity face are a higher risk for diabetes.
Diabetes is the body’s inability to efficiently handle the sugar (glucose) that’s in a person’s blood. Greater than normal levels of sugar in the blood may lead to damage to different parts of the body including blood vessels and nerves.
One of the two types of the illness is Type 2 diabetes, which oftentimes starts in adulthood. A more alarming factor is that children are now falling victim to this disease because of the jump in obesity and decrease in exercise.
Type 2 is the most common type of diabetes and the one that’s associated to one being overweight.
Insulin shots may also be required for people that get Type 2 diabetes, but in most situations, it can be prevented by keeping a healthy weight, consuming the right foods, and being physically fit.
